HOW CAN I BECOME A MEMBER OF THE NCATE UNIT ACCREDITATION BOARD

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) policy boards are composed of representatives from four constituent groups that represent different educator groups: teacher educators (AACTE & ATE), teachers (NEA & AFT), state and local policy makers (CCSSO, NASBE, NSBA) and the specialty professional associations. These constituent groups have an agreed upon number of representatives on the various policy boards. In order to represent all of the NCATE constituencies, the UAB is composed of 1/3 members appointed by AACTE, 1/3 members appointed by the teacher organizations, and 1/3 composed of teacher education policy groups and specialized professional associations. This allocation is set by policy agreed among the NCATE constituent groups and is not the result of any shortage of teacher education representatives. AACTE has ten representatives that sit on the UAB.

As terms of service on these boards expire and vacancies occur, representatives to this board are nominated by the Committee on Professional Preparation and Accountability (CPPA). Representatives are selected from among AACTE?s cadre of representatives currently serving on the Board of Examiners. If you would like to apply to be on the Board of Examiners, please click here to initiate the BoE application process. If you are currently serving on the BoE and would like to be considered for service on the Unit Accreditation Board, please contact Mary Beth Nowinski at mnowinski@aacte.org.
