The following resource is a video-imbedded CD-ROM available for your use.

Everything You Wanted to Know About HIV/AIDS in the
Classroom But Were Afraid to Ask: A Teacher's Interactive Journey

"Everything You Wanted to Know about HIV/AIDS in the Classroom, but Were Afraid to Ask: A Teacher's Interactive Journey" is a video-imbedded CD-ROM designed to prepare teacher education students to skillfully engage issues of HIV/AIDS before entering the classroom. It provides beneficial information to teacher educators, educational researchers, inservice teachers and others concerned with the impact of health issues in the educational setting.

Video Story Line
A middle-school teacher is forced by circumstance to engage the needs of a student who has HIV/AIDS. Issues such as professional responsibility, confidentiality, safe classroom management, infectious disease control, and family involvement are engaged as the teacher faces the natural consequence of each decision she makes as an educator. The varied scenarios the teacher must navigate include a child with a bloody nose on the playground, another teacher's insistent request for confidential student information, and an irate parent who doesn't want his child to be in the classroom with someone who has HIV/AIDS. These circumstances provide opportunities for the prospective teacher to test her knowledge and skill in HIV/AIDS prevention. The engaging interactive format of video imbedded CD ROM allows the teacher to demonstrate her skill and knowledge, or lack thereof, in dealing with HIV/AIDS related real-life scenarios. The outcome of the correct choice is rewarding. Consequences of uninformed or unskilled teacher practice can lead to unemployment or even death.

"Everything You Wanted to Know about HIV/AIDS in the Classroom, but Were Afraid to Ask: A Teacher's Interactive Journey" may be borrowed free of charge for a period of two months.
