    Senator Reed (D-RI) and Senator Kennedy (D-MA) are co-sponsoring a ?Dear Colleague? letter asking for increased funds for the Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant program, authorized in Title II of the Higher Education Act.   • Alternative Certification Isn't Alternative
    AACTE brings to your attention this report co-authored by Kate Walsh and Sandi Jacobs of the National Council on Teacher Quality, and released on September 18, 2007 by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. The report directly targets teacher preparation programs as well as state licensing agencies. AACTE challenges the objectivity of the findings and the report?s premises about teacher preparation. The ?Dear Deans? letter provides a summary of the document, a link to the full document, links to news stories about the report, and talking points prepared by AACTE for possible use in responding to calls from the press.

  • "To Teach or Not to Teach?
    Teaching Experience and Preparation Among 1992-93 Bachelor's Degree Recipients 10 Years After College"

    The National Center for Education statistics released on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 a report of interest to teacher educators. The 50-page report (minus appendices) can be downloaded at: http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2007/2007163.pdf. Talking Points developed by AACTE staff may be helpful to you should you receive calls from the press.

  • AACTE would like to bring to your attention a publication released June 27, 2007 by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), entitled, State Teacher Policy Yearbook 2007: What States Can Do to Improve Teacher Quality.

    The report is actually 52 reports, comprised of a National Summary and 51 state/DC reports which are downloadable at http://www.nctq.org/stpy/index.html.

    Please review these talking points (PDF) as you may receive inquiries from your local news agencies regarding this report. Responses to reporters? questions should appropriately address how particular policies in your state affect the quality of teacher preparation at your institution.

You can also view the Associated Press story which was circulated to a number of newspapers across the country at The Boston Globe

  • Educating Researchers by Arthur Levine
    AACTE would like to bring to your attention the third report in the series by Arthur Levine, entitled Educating School Researchers. We expect that some of our member institutional representatives will receive calls from their local media affiliates about this report and we would like to provide you with talking points to the report. Also, AACTE staff have prepared a six-page summary of this report.

    You may certainly incorporate into your own response and feel free to use AACTE's talking points as needed in your comments to the media.
