Terrific teachers are one of our country’s most important resources. The Meritorious New Teacher Candidate (MNTC) designation, one of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Teachers Project's (MARTP) initiatives, is designed to recognize and reward exceptionally well-prepared new teachers. Similar to National Board Certification, this designation is one of professional accomplishment for prospective teachers who excelled at every phase of preparation and demonstrated a deep commitment to high expectations for all children.

Some of the benefits of being a Meritorious New Teacher Candidate are:

• Receive recognition from your teacher preparation program as one of their very best new graduates
• Be included on a list of terrific candidates sent to all school districts in the region
• Receive a special seal on your state teacher license and an open letter of recommendation from the Chief State School Officer
• Receive full, hassle-free reciprocity to teach in any of the participating states for the duration of your license

Regardless of where in the United States you prepared to teach, you can apply for this designation through any of the participating states (DC, DE, MD, VA) and, if successful, will be fully certified to teach throughout this region.

NEW: Get in the driver’s seat during the hiring season by becoming an MNTC Pre-Candidate.

This new certificate will help you secure the teaching position you want! If you are about to enter the job market and meet the criteria, you will receive a special MNTC Pre-Candidate certificate to attach to applications. Also, with your permission, your contact information will be e-mailed to every School District in the region in the spring, urging them to hire you as one of the region’s “best and brightest.”
