Ginsberg Takes the Helm as New AACTE Board Chair

(March 4, 2015, Washington, D.C.) - Dr. Mark Ginsberg, dean of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, became chair of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) on March 1.  During his one-year term, Ginsberg will lead the Board in developing new policies and programs and will serve as a spokesperson for the Association.

“I look forward to helping AACTE meet the many critical and compelling challenges ahead, while also continuing the positive trajectory of member service and innovation that historically has characterized the Association,” Ginsberg said. “It is an honor to have been elected and a privilege to serve AACTE’s members and our field.”

A national leader in education for more than 30 years, Ginsberg currently also serves as a board member of the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation and the national organization Parents as Teachers. He is a past president of the International Step by Step Association, an alliance of 30 education-focused national NGOs in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. For 12 years, Ginsberg was executive director and chief executive officer of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). He also has worked closely with the former National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), where he was actively involved in standard setting, accreditation and credentialing.

“Education has reached new heights in our national consciousness. Today, there is a renewed public acclaim for the importance of education to our communities. In fact, education has risen to among the top tier issues in our nation. As the field of education continues to evolve and change, AACTE’s national leaders must be skilled, experienced and well-informed about the multiple challenges our disciplines face,” Ginsberg said.  

Ginsberg completed his master's and doctoral degrees at Pennsylvania State University, after receiving a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Cortland. He also completed a fellowship in clinical psychology at the Yale University School of Medicine. In 2006, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by the State University of New York.
